During a recent town hall meeting at the School of Health Science Auditorium in Benue State University the Executive Lead for the Initiative on Human Rights and Gender Awareness, Nyiyam Pauline Ikyereve and the Program Lead for the Constitutional Alteration Bill project, discussed the significant strides being made in advocating for women’s representation in governance.
The meeting provided a detailed review of the Constitutional Alteration Bill, which is part of an advocacy campaign implemented by the lead consortium League of Voters of Nigeria, RACE Center inclusive skills and development initiative together with lawyers alert. This initiative aims to create additional seats exclusively for women in legislative bodies, addressing the critical gender gaps in governance and leadership structures.
The reviewed framework emphasizes underrepresentation of Women further highlighting the lack of female representation in policymaking processes.
